Control your games…with your mind
A number of companies are researching ways of utilising human generated electrical activity to control devices and basic computer interfaces. Whilst Elon Musk continues down the line of neural implants to achieve the same this research is what is more likely to come to fruitition in my view: Can mind-controlled VR games help stroke patients? Whilst the prototype shown in this article could best be described as an electrical octopus no doubt with time it will become more low profile.
The article suggests the use of this technology to control VR games which, in reading the article, is not truly correct. Controlling 2D presentations of VR experiences is probably more to the point however I could see how this type of interface may be beneficial in interacting with immersive VR experiences. There is still work to be done especially when the current focus is on how to provide alternatives to physical movement in VR through tracked movement via hand controllers. Voice control is likely to be next before we make the leap to having mind control.
