The battle of the AR “lightweights” continues?

Now this is getting interesting: another AR glasses product has been launched into the AR “lightweight” category: AR post report on the launch of the Rokid Max. Now I say “lightweight” not so much related to the actual weight of the glasses but their smaller profile in comparison to traditional VR headsets.

This is where is gets interesting especially from an accessibility point of view.

Screens on smartphones can only get so large before becoming impractical. That’s where I perceive solutions like the Rokid Max and Nreal glasses come into play.

A solution I often recommend to clients with a vision impairment is casting their smartphone screen to a desktop or external monitor to provide a larger representation of the smartphone’s screen. However this solution is limited to a static location. If portable AR glasses such as these can be used to cast your smartphone screen to think of the potential.

Now to go find some funding to purchase a demo pair.
